Pregnant massage offers many benefits to women who are suffering from the back aches and pains associated with having to carry a child for nine months. But pregnancy reflexology goes one step further, using specific pressure points within the body to trigger certain releases that are associated with the very beginning stages of childbirth. Using acupressure to induce labor allows you to begin the process of labor from within the comfort of your home, triggering dilation of the cervix and starting the mild contractions that will lead up to having the baby. Because you begin this process early, you get to fully and safely control the initial stages of childbirth.

Another care to be taken while giving the massage is your position. Since you cannot lie on your stomach, you will most often be laid on your side with pillows for support. While there are special tables designed to allow room for a pregnant belly, most therapists prefer to have you rest on your side. Pregnant mothers are very sensitive and masseurs will need to be careful when giving massages as to not harm the baby in any way. Exercise During Pregnancy– Is it Ok?

Posted in Article Cribs & Nursery Beds by Babycare - Jan 24, 2010

Tired of back aches? Worried about becoming unhealthy during pregnancy? Nervous about the delivery? Exercise during pregnancy can actually help in all of these areas. There are many myths circulating that it is unsafe to work out when pregnant, but, unless you have specific complications, this is false.

Of course it is important to be careful about exercise when you are pregnant. Every woman should consult with her doctor to make sure her exercise program is safe and right for her circumstances. Often we take the extremes in working out. Some want to push themselves to the edge of their limits, as they may have done before pregnancy. Others are afraid of doing any kind of exercise at all. Overworking your body is by far worse, but with a moderate plan of exercise you can maintain good health during pregnancy. Using a low impact workout will help you maintain your fitness without jeopardizing your joints or your developing baby.

Some of the benefits of low impact exercise during pregnancy are to you prepare your body for delivery, and to recover more quickly after delivery. In working out, you can enhance your endurance levels and build up the muscles you will be using in delivery. Keeping fit will cause you to gain less overall fat and allow you to shed the extra weight of pregnancy more quickly. The goal of exercising while pregnant is not to lose weight but to sustain your health and fitness.

Other benefits are looking and feeling better! During pregnancy, stress accumulates from the day to day worries and the changes occurring in the body. Exercise is a natural stress reliever. It is a way to drive out your frustrations. Your body releases endorphins when you work out which act as a natural opiate to dull pain and just make you generally feel better. It also stimulates the brain. Physical exercise gives your immune system the boost it needs to be able to fight against colds and other illnesses. Despite the changes in your body, with proper exercise you may even find a better quality of sleep at night.

So what kinds of exercise are good in pregnancy? One of the best is walking. A brisk walk is recommended, though you can take your walk at your own pace according to how your body is feeling. Don’t forget about warm up and cool down periods. It is best to start your walk at a leisurely pace for the first few minutes and then take it up to a more vigorous level, remembering to take the last few minutes to cool down. Also avoid the hottest parts of the day, as overheating and dehydration are potentially dangerous for the fetus. Walking is just one option. You can mold your workout routine out of your interests. Be careful of activities or exercises that have lots of bouncing or require you to lie on your back. Make sure to check your exercises out with your doctor, who can advise you on their safety. Lookout for dizziness or extra pain, as it is an indication that it is time to stop.

Obviously exercise is not the only important element of health during pregnancy. Diet is essential to keeping your body and your baby’s body healthy and strong. Don’t forget to add a prenatal vitamin to your diet and eat foods that are rich in vitamins and carbohydrates. Taking care of your body is the best thing you can do for your baby.

Life, How Precious

Posted in Article Cribs & Nursery Beds by Babycare - Jan 24, 2010

Mieliepap and all!

At the age of 47 I really know that life is one of the most precious commodities that anyone could have. I am so glad that I have the change to be part of human kind.

We live in a society where we have to put our lives in the hands of other people. At first we don’t have a choice. Most of us are being cared for in our mother’s womb for nine months plus. If this mother decides that she does not want you there is nothing you can do about it.

Is it because those mothers doesn’t think about the fact that their own lives are precious and God given? People don’t value the union between man and woman anymore, for that reason a lot of women get pregnant without committing to a man, preferably a husband. What are the reasons that somebody can just decide who is going to live and who is not going to get a change?

I’ve been given a few reasons; cant’ afford to raise a child right now, a child will be an obstacle at this stage of my career, I’m HIV positive, the father left me when he found out that I’m pregnant, we did not plan to have a child at this stage, I don’t know who the father is, don’t want my parents to find out, my boyfriend does not want a child, etc.

Then I’ve been given some real reasons; the fetus is deformed, I’ve been raped, it is life threatening for the mother.

Well, whatever the reason, a choice is made. When I look at the toddlers running around in supermarkets or parks, yes, even a man can think that a baby or toddler is cute, I’m just so grateful to God that their parents did not think that there was a choice or that those who had to make a choice chose life.

Am I judgemental? No, not at all. I can never be in somebody else’s shoes. Am I trying to change other peoples’ perceptions? Let me be honest and say YES!

The reason why I say that I’m not judgmental is because I’ve made mistakes in my life and I’ll probably make mistakes in the future. I just thank God that He, in His grace has paid a Price for my mistakes.

I’ve been born and raised in a not to small town, Upington, Northern Cape, South Africa. I mother has fled from an abusive husband from Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, while she was pregnant with me. I grew up not knowing a father figure. My mother raised me, my older brothers(3) and a sister without the help of a man or the government. When my sister died in a car accident she took in two children as well. One of my cousins did not want her baby girl and my mother stepped in to raise that girl as my younger sister.

I remember a time when she earned a mere R25 (today it is more or less $2 and 50c aE” American) a month. There were times when we had to eat bread with sugared water after school, sometimes mieliepap (porridge made with maize meal). There were times that I thought that she must be a magician, because we never went hungry, we had clothes (maybe not brand names) and we attended school.

Was she an amazing woman, was she a hero? Not according to her. I would call her the greatest mom of all. She saw herself as a normal mother who would give her best in love and that would never give up on her children. We, as children, were not her responsibility, we were her children.

Sorry, I’ve got carried away. Where was I?

Yes, I was trying to change somebody’s mind. I’ve met somebody who was born disabled, as we would like to call it. He is very successful and does not see himself as disabled. He says that God allowed him to be challenged more than other people and that he is so grateful to God. Because of his condition he has a lot of willpower and drive.

Many people living with HIV have beautiful children without the disease. If you are HIV positive and pregnant, speak to your doctor.

I know it is not that easy to try and convince somebody who’s life is threatened by pregnancy or who has been raped to hold on to that life growing inside of you. I just hope that there will be testimonies of people who held on to their babies under these circumstances. Please, if you read this hub and you are one of them, place your testimony in the comments field.

God thinks very highly of us. While busy creating, He had us in mind the whole time; placing the sun in exactly the right place so that we could live, seeing that we will have air to breath by placing plants on the earth, allowing rain, plants and animals to feed us, leaving us in charge of His work, giving us a will to make decisions and best of all, blow His Spirit into us.

Tell me, could any big bang really do this, without Somebody behind it? We are trying to convince others but we cannot even convince ourselves that we’re here because of a decision by nature. I would believe you if you told me that there was a big bang because God called everything to order when He commanded: “Let there be. . . . ”

Mothers’ to be, you are not judged, I’m just trying to tell you to consider carefully. God bless you.

Now I’m going to judge. Governments, you were placed there to look after us. We placed you there but the majority of people don’t think that you’ve got our interest at heart. I sometimes think that the governing parties don’t have their own interest at heart.

Why do I say you don’t have our interest at heart?

You have killed so many babies that cant fight for themselves. The blood of those babies is on your hands for legalizing abortions at will. You actually say, if you want to, you can kill and nobody will touch you. If you read this and you say, but I’ve got to vote whatever my party propose, you are still guilty. There are parties out there with moral values intact, especially in South Africa. I’m not promoting any party, I’m promoting God. Can you sleep at night.

What about the countless women who had abortions and now regret it.

The South African government has gone so far as to allow 12 year olds to abort without parental consent, yet they cant buy a packet of cigarettes at a shop legally. Who is going to council those poor traumatized children if their parents do not know that they had abortions.

How many future leaders with integrity did you kill? Do you even care? You’re counting on getting those children’s votes sometime in their future because you’ve given them what they want? Do you really think that they wanted to abortions? Maybe they just did not know how to speak to their parents about this. Maybe they just needed an adult to reach out to them.

People, please, next time you need to go to a voting station, know what the party you want to vote for embraces morally. Are we not just as guilty? Why did we and you in other countries, not stop the governments dead in their tracts by not voting for them. Have we forsaken God and our morals? Have we forsaken our children and fellow citizens?

Shockingly as it is, there are actually still parents out there that, when children do speak to them, would encourage or force those children to have abortions. Shame on you. You do not deserve to be called parents. When your status is more important than your child, please go and see somebody to help you work on your self-esteem.

God has a plan for your unborn child. He is going to take care of you and the child. I am blessed because I had a mother who cared and a father who did not. I appreciate life. Mieliepap helped me to survive and I still eat it. It is by no means a poor man’s food but it is one of the cheaper foods. South Africans, keep on eating you pap.

I started this article because I wanted to talk about how precious life is from the womb to the grave but I’ve been too emotional. I might continue next time. Enjoy life and God bless.
